Meet the Board
Deb Schmitt, was part of the leadership team to form the nonprofit the South Kitsap Helpline. She is a longtime proven grant writer, fundraiser and board leader. Deb had an interesting career! She worked as a radiological engineer, technical writer, and later math and science teacher.
Board Vice Chair:
Mark Sherwood is Vice Chair. Following 27 years developing products in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, Mark finished his professional career with 12 years in the U.S. office of World Vision. There he provided executive support to World Vision’s President, senior team, and board. From his career experiences, Mark brings expertise in nonprofit board governance and in business management to KRM’s board. Mark has a BA in Chemistry, and an MBA.
Kenneth L. Robinson
Ken Robinson brings corporate expertise to the board. After retiring from Raytheon as Engineering Manager, Ken returned to school, earning his MBA. He then brought his new skills to not only the Mission, but also to Civil Service as a Business Analyst.
Tylar Edwards is a Kitsap County resident who spends his workdays in Seattle where he serves as a Sr. Prosecuting Attorney for King County. Tylar attend Law School at Seattle University.
Ann Nims Byrnes, Board Chair, had a 35-year career in nonprofit leadership before retiring as the Chief Operations Officer for the Pacific Division of the American Red Cross in 2016. She was part of a small team that changed the field structure of the Red Cross, revamping the role of boards, chapter CEO’s and fundraising. Ann served as a mentor/coach to Red Cross executives throughout the country. Prior to Red Cross Ann was the Director of Community Resources for Pacific Medical Center in Seattle for 12 years. Ann also currently serves as the Vice Chair of the American Red Cross Retiree Association. She is a graduate of Seattle University.
Treasurer, Dena Swisher is from a third generation Bremerton family, where she resides now. In her own words “I love this City!!! My Mother used to say pick a passion and give back.” Dena has followed her mother’s advice. Her professional background is in the medical field where she worked in administration, bookkeeping, and marketing. She also worked five years in the Emergency Room. In addition to the board, Dena serves regularly at the front desk, welcoming our guests to the Mission.
This January KRM welcomed Bill Frey to the board of directors. For over 35 years Bill was an attorney with the law firm of Dufford, Waldeck, Milburn & Krohn in Grand Junction CO. He was the managing partner of the law firm for more than 20 years and retired in 2017. Bill served on the Executive Council of the Tax Section of the Colorado Bar Association for 8 years and on the Foundation Bard of HopeWest for 10 years. Bill and his wife Kathi moved to Kitsap County in 2017 to be close to family. Bill quickly put his governance and leaderships experience and abilities to work as the newest board member.
A West Point graduate, I have spent most of my business career in executive sales and marketing of consumer-packaged goods for national brands and private labels in the US dollar and discount trade. I am a retired professor of International Marketing at the School of Business of University of La Verne in Los Angeles. Having completed seminary from the Berean School of the Bible, Global University, I have served in Church Planting, Vision Planning and Leadership for the Puget Sound District of the Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. I am currently also serving in community engagement programs for homeless youth at the Coffee Oasis of Kitsap County.
